Drive California's spectacular coastline - Highway 1
Explore the dramatic twists and turns of Highway 1 from San Francisco to Los Angeles and you'll encounter the natural side of California.
Day 1 & 2 San Francisco
Iconic San Francisco comprises of the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf and Alcatraz. But San Francisco is oh so much more than its icons. While very hilly, San Francisco is absolutely perfect to explore on foot. Locals recommend spending time at the lively Ferry Building, with its bustling weekend Farmers Markets.

Day 3 & 4 Monterey
2 hours south lies Monterey, with its magical combination of small town openness and great restaurants and attractions, including the aquarium and Cannery Row. Continue along 17 Mile Drive; sea, sky, dream homes set graciously behind elegant gates, lots of wildlife and emerald fairways including the world-renowned Pebble Beach Golf Links.

Day 5 San Simeon
Continue along magnificent stretches of rugged coastline, rich in wildlife from whales to soaring eagles. Known as a place of spiritual renewal, San Simeon is interspersed with galleries, luxury boutiques, stylish bars and restaurants. The jewel in the crown is undoubtedly Big Sur, where the driving is slow and the scenery is breathtaking.

Day 6 San Luis Obispo
San Simeon, once a bustling whaling station, is now most visited for spectacular Heart Castle. Tour the castle and then head south to San Luis Obispo, a lively college town with a high quality of life and a vibrant community spirit. On Thursday evenings the lively Farmers Market takes over this town and is a must do for food lovers.

Day 7 & 8 Santa Barbara
The American answer to the Mediterranean, Santa Barbara is a place to relax, walk barefoot on the beach and build up an appetite. The local wines provide the perfect accompaniment to the excellent local fish and fresh produce. After taking in the city, it's worth a trip up the upmarket coast, home today to many stars from Oprah Winfrey to John Cleese.
