From 13 February 2007, British Airways will introduce a single allowance system, based upon the number of bags that can be checked in. The number of bags that can be checked in will vary according to the class of travel and route. At the same time the maximum weight for any checked bag will be reduced to 23kg to comply with health and safety recommendations.
Customers can also check in one piece of sporting equipment in addition to their check baggage allowance. For example: snow and skiing equipment, golf equipment, fishing equipment, bicycles, windsurfer sets, diving equipment, hang gliders and firearms. Sporting goods over 23kg require pre-notification.
For journeys which involve multiple carriers, the policy of the other carrier of origin will apply. For example: An economy customer travelling from Sydney to Singapore on Qantas and Singapore to London on British Airways will be allowed 20kg for the entire journey, as Qantas is the origin carrier and their policy is 20kg per economy passenger.
