Qantas to launch wireless system on its new A380 to improve customer satisfaction 25 October 2007

Qantas will soon see its cabin crew using BlackBerry-like technology aboard its Airbus A380 operations when they launch the first of their new aircraft in August 2009. The new devices will be introduced on long-haul flights as a means for replacing the current paper system that the aircrew uses. It will provide crew with immediate and up to date customer information for all passengers onboard.

According to the Australian, Qantas Airways' senior architect, Jay Gurjar, has said that the new technology will function to make cabin crews more accountable to Qantas's back-end customer relationship management systems- making better use of the airline's vast amounts of customer data. The Australian has also cited that Qantas aims to link its customer relationship software with its front-end reservations and departure application, Amadeus by 2008.

'Essentially, all these airport processes are trying to allocate a resource to a customer. So as long as we can define a ranking process to a customer, we can allocate a resource according to who is going to be upgraded first or who is going to be downgraded first," said Gurjar for the Australian.

Gurjar has also stated that the system has the potential to provide instructions to crew for special needs passengers; as well tracking and monitoring a customer's trip onboard and any dissatisfactions or grievances that may occur. Instructions for each passenger will then be given according to the customer's 'flight history,' allowing flight staff to create a customer value for each passenger.
