Jetstar has responded to Tiger Airways' announcement of new routes by launching self-check kiosks and web check-in facilities across its network.
Jetstar has opened 10 self service check-in unites at Melbourne Airport today, and will roll out similar kiosks at Melbourne Avalon, Brisbane and potentially Sydney by the end of the year.
Jetstar chief executive Alan Joyce said the introduction of the service at Sydney is pending the confirmation of commercial terms.
"Self Service Check-in is an important development for Jetstar as we continue to attract tens of thousands of regular, repeat customers, on day only travel or business travel," Joyce said.
Passengers will be able to check themselves in at airport kiosks from two hours prior to departure, or via web check-in from as early as 24 hours prior to departure.
"Kiosks and web check-in will help streamline the check-in process and will help minimise the impact of more services and high traffic levels as we rapidly approach the busy summer school holiday period," Joyce said.
