Qantas and Emirates Partnership FAQs

The FAQs set out below provide more details on the Qantas Frequent Flyer Member proposition.

Note: Some Qantas codeshare services on Emirates remain subject to regulatory approval.

Recognition and Benefits

1. Will my Qantas Frequent Flyer Status be recognised when I am travelling with Emirates?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013, Emirates (EK) will offer recognition of Qantas Frequent Flyer Members at various customer experience touch Points before, during and after the flight. For more details on the benefits including priority check-in, boarding and baggage refer to qantas.com/qantasandemirates.

2. Will I receive my additional Qantas Frequent Flyer baggage allowance when travelling on an Emirates (EK) flight number?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013, eligible Qantas Frequent Flyer Members, and Qantas Club Members, will receive the Qantas additional baggage allowance when travelling on Emirates (EK) operated flights. Members must be booked and ticketed on the Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK) flight number.

3. I enjoy priority boarding as part of my Qantas Frequent flyer status. Will I continue to enjoy this when I travel on an Emirates flight?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013, Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One, Platinum and Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer Members will enjoy priority boarding when travelling on Emirates (EK) operated flights. Members must be booked and ticketed on the Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK) flight number.

4. Will my Qantas Frequent Flyer status entitle me to use premium check-in counters when checking in at an Emirates counter?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013,Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One and Platinum Qantas Frequent Flyers Members will be able to check in for Emirates (EK) operated flights at First or Business check-in counters (where available). Gold Qantas Frequent Flyers will be able to check in at the Business check-in counters (where available).

Members must be booked and ticketed on the Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK) flight number.

5. As a Qantas Frequent Flyer Member will I have access to the Advance Seat Selection when travelling on Emirates?

Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One, Platinum, Gold and Silver Frequent Flyer Members will have access to the complimentary Advance Seat Selection when travelling on Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK) operated flights. All customers will have access to Advance Seat Selection and Qantas advance seat selection policies and relevant fees will continue to apply on Qantas operated flights. Members must be booked and ticketed on Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK) flight number.

6. As a Chairmans Lounge / Platinum One / Platinum Member I am personally welcomed onboard by a Qantas flight attendant when I take my seat. Will the Emirates cabin crew welcome me in the same way?

Yes. For travel on/after 31 March 2013, you will be welcomed onboard by the Emirates inflight crew in the same friendly manner as you would when flying on a Qantas (QF) operated flight. Members must be booked and ticketed on the Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK) flight number.

Earn Points

1. Will I earn Qantas Points and Status credits when I travel on Qantas (QF) flights operated by Emirates (EK)?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013, Qantas Frequent Flyer Members can earn Qantas points on eligible fares on all Qantas (QF) marketed flights that are operated by Emirates (EK) irrespective of when the booking was created. To earn both Points and Status credits, your flights must be booked and ticketed with a Qantas (QF) flight number.

2. How many Points will I earn for travel on Qantas (QF) flights operated by Emirates (EK)?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013, Qantas Frequent Flyer Members can earn Qantas points if they are booked and ticketed on the Qantas (QF) marketed flights that are operated by Emirates (EK) in accordance with the Qantas Earn table.

3. Will I earn Qantas points when I travel on Emirates (EK) flights?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013, Qantas Frequent Flyer Members can earn Qantas points when travelling on eligible fares classes on all Emirates (EK) marketed and operated flights globally, irrespective of when the booking was created. To earn Points on Emirates (EK) your flight must be booked and ticketed with an Emirates (EK) flight number.

4. How many Points will I earn for travel on an Emirates (EK) flight?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013, Qantas Frequent Flyer Members can earn Qantas points when booked and ticketed on the Emirates (EK) flight number as per the Emirates (EK) Earn table.

5. I am a Qantas Frequent Flyer Member, my frequent flyer number has been added to my booking and my ticket shows that I am travelling from Sydney to Zurich via Dubai on flights QF8415 and QF8085 on/after 31 March 2013. Will I earn Qantas points and Status credits?

Yes. You will earn Qantas points and Status credits on flights booked and ticketed with a Qantas (QF) flight number on eligible fares.

6. If I am booked to travel on Emirates (EK) before 31 March 2013, will I earn Qantas points?

Qantas points can be earned on eligible Emirates (EK) operated and marketed flights for travel on/after 31 March 2013. Qantas points cannot be earned on Emirates (EK) operated and marketed flights departing before 31 March 2013.

7. Are there Qantas (QF) codeshare flights operated by Emirates (EK) where I won't be eligible to earn Qantas points?

No, Qantas Frequent Flyer Members can earn Qantas points on all eligible fares on Qantas (QF) marketed flights operated by Emirates (EK) for travel on/after 31 March 2013 in accordance with the Qantas Earn table.

8. I am a Qantas Frequent Flyer Member, my Frequent Flyer number has been added to my booking and my ticket shows that I am travelling from Sydney to Zurich via Dubai on flights EK415 and EK85 on/after 31 March 2013. Will I earn QFF Points and Status credits?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013, you will only earn Qantas points on eligible fares .To earn Status credits as well, you need to be booked and ticketed with a Qantas (QF) flight number. You will earn Qantas points in accordance with Emirates (EK) Earn table.

9. I am a Qantas Frequent Flyer Member, my Frequent Flyer number has been added to my booking and my ticket shows that I am travelling from Sydney to Paris via Dubai on flights QF1 and EK71 on/after 31 March 2013. Will I earn QFF Points and Status credits?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013, you will earn Qantas points and Status credits on your flight from Sydney to Dubai as you are booked and ticketed on a Qantas (QF) flight number. You will only earn Points (but not Status credits) on your flight from Dubai to Paris as you are booked and ticketed on an Emirates (EK) flight number.

10. When will I be able to add my Qantas Frequent Flyer Membership number to my Emirates booking?

Emirates (EK) are aiming to allow Qantas Frequent Flyer Members the ability to add their Qantas Frequent Flyer Membership number to Emirates (EK) bookings from early March 2013 via emirates.com, Emirates Contact Centres and travel agents.

11. When will I be able to add my Skywards Membership number to my Qantas booking?

Qantas is aiming to allow Skywards Members the ability to add their Skywards Membership number to Qantas (QF) bookings from early March 2013 via qantas.com, Qantas Contact Centres and travel agents.

12. I am a Member of both the Qantas Frequent Flyer Program and Skywards. Which program should I choose to add to my booking?

We are partners in each other's' program and the choice for earning will ultimately be a personal one, based on the benefits of each program. The Qantas Frequent Flyer Program offers you the opportunity to earn Points not only when you fly, but also allows you to earn everyday through a wide range of over 450 partners. Further, once you've earned enough Points, you have over 3,000 ways to use them at our online store, or you can use them for flight Awards flying Qantas, Emirates or one of our other partner airlines. Qantas points can also be used for seat upgrade Awards on Qantas (QF) operated flights.

13. If I have travelled on Emirates (EK) before 31 March 2013, can I claim Qantas points retrospectively?

No. Qantas points can only be earned on eligible Emirates (EK) flights for travel on/after 31 March 2013.

Earn Cabin Bonus Points

1. As a Qantas Frequent Flyer Member, will I earn Cabin Bonus Points when travelling on Emirates (EK) operated flights?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013, Qantas Frequent Flyer Members can earn Cabin Bonus Points on all Emirates (EK) operated flights as follows:

Earn Status Bonus Points

1. Will I earn Status Bonus Points when travelling on Qantas (QF) marketed flights operated by Emirates (EK)?

Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One, Platinum, Gold and Silver Qantas Frequent Flyer Members can earn Status bonus Points when booked and ticketed on Qantas (QF) marketed flight operated by Emirates (EK). Visit earning Status bonus Points on Qantas for more information.

Status Bonus Points are not earned on Emirates (EK) flights when Qantas Frequent Flyer Members are booked and ticketed on an Emirates (EK) flight number.

Earn Qantas Status Credits

1. Will I earn Qantas Status credits when I travel on Qantas (QF) flights operated by Emirates (EK)?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013, Qantas Frequent Flyer Members booked on eligible fares can earn Status credits on all Qantas marketed flights operated by Emirates (EK), irrespective of when the booking was created. To earn Qantas Status credits you must be booked and ticketed on a Qantas (QF) flight number.

2. How many Qantas Status credits will I earn for travel on Qantas (QF) flights operated by Emirates (EK)?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013, Qantas Frequent Flyer Members can earn Qantas Status credits when booked and ticketed on a Qantas (QF) marketed flight operated by Emirates (EK) in accordance with the Qantas Status Bonus Earn rules.

3. Will I earn Qantas Status credits when I am booked and ticketed to travel on Emirates (EK) flights?

No. Qantas Frequent Flyer Members can only earn Status credits when booked and ticketed on a Qantas (QF) marketed flights operated by Emirates (EK).
Status credits are not earned on Emirates (EK) flights when booked and ticketed on the Emirates (EK) flight number.

4. I am a Qantas Frequent Flyer Member, my frequent flyer number has been added to my booking and my ticket shows that I am travelling from Sydney to Zurich via Dubai on flights QF8415 and QF8085 on/after 31 March 2013. Will I earn Status credits?

Yes. You will earn Status credits on Emirates (EK) operated flights booked and ticketed with a Qantas (QF) flight number on eligible fares.

5. I am a Qantas Frequent Flyer, my frequent flyer number has been added to my booking and my ticket shows that I am travelling from Sydney to Zurich via Dubai on flights EK415 and EK85 on/after 31 March 2013. Will I earn Status credits?

To earn Status credits as well as Qantas points you need to be booked and ticketed with a Qantas (QF) flight number.

6. I am a Qantas Frequent Flyer, my frequent flyer number has been added to my booking and my ticket shows that I am travelling from Sydney to Paris via Dubai on flights QF1 and EK71 on/after 31 March 2013. Will I earn Status credits?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013, you will earn Qantas points and Status credits on your flight from Sydney to Dubai as you are booked and ticketed on a Qantas (QF) flight number. You will only earn Qantas points on your flight from Dubai to Paris as you are booked and ticketed on an Emirates (EK) flight number.

Use Points

1. Can I use my Qantas points for a Qantas Classic Award on a flight with an Emirates (EK) flight number?

From 31 March 2013, Qantas Frequent Flyer Members can use Qantas points to book Qantas Classic Awards for travel on all Emirates (EK) marketed and operated flights worldwide with an EK flight number.

Qantas Classic Awards are subject to availability and additional taxes, fees and carrier charges are payable at the time of booking.

2. How many Points will I need to book a Classic Award on Emirates (EK)?

The number of Qantas points required for a Qantas Classic Award on Emirates (EK) varies depending on class of travel and routing. The number Points required for a Classic Award on Emirates (EK) is based on the Qantas Classic Award table.

Qantas Classic Awards are subject to availability and additional taxes, fees and carrier charges are payable at the time of booking.

3. When can I book a Qantas Classic Award to travel on an Emirates (EK) flight using my Qantas points?

Qantas Classic Award bookings may be booked on Emirates (EK) operated flights from 31 March 2013.

4. Can I use my Qantas points to book a Qantas Classic Award to travel on a Qantas (QF) codeshare flight operated by Emirates (EK)?

No. Qantas Classic Awards cannot be booked on Qantas (QF) codeshare flights that are operated by Emirates (EK). They must be booked on the Emirates (EK) flight number.

5. Can I use my Qantas points to make a Qantas Anyseat Award or a Points Plus Pay booking?

Yes. Qantas and Jetstar Anyseat Awards and Points Plus Pay on Qantas (QF) codeshare flights operated by Emirates (EK) can now be booked on qantas.com for travel on/after 31 March 2013.

6. Can I use my Qantas points to register for a Flight Upgrade Award?

Flight Upgrade Award requests using Qantas points are available on eligible Qantas fares on flights that are operated and marketed by Qantas (QF) only. To be eligible for an Award Upgrade you must have the Qantas (QF) flight number on your ticket and the flight must be operated by Qantas (QF).

Qantas Frequent Flyer Award Upgrades using Points will not be available on Qantas (QF) codeshare flights operated by Emirates (EK) or Emirates (EK) flights.

7. Will there be Classic Award blackout periods on Emirates (EK) flights?

No. There are no blackout periods for Classic Awards on Emirates (EK).
Qantas Classic Awards are subject to availability and additional taxes, fees and carrier charges are payable at the time of booking.

8. Will I be able to include Emirates (EK) flight(s) on oneworld Awards?

No. Emirates are not a member of the oneworld global alliance, so flights operated by Emirates (EK) cannot be included in oneworld Award bookings.

9. Can I combine my Qantas points with my Emirates Skywards miles?

No. Qantas Frequent Flyer program Points and Emirates Skywards program miles cannot be combined and Points/miles are not transferable.

Lounge Access

1. Will Qantas Frequent Flyer Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One, Platinum or Gold Members have access to all Emirates lounges?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013 Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One, Platinum and Gold Qantas Frequent Flyers will have access to the Emirates lounges where available across Australia, Europe, North Africa, Asia and the Middle East. In Dubai, Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One and Platinum Qantas Frequent Flyers will have access to the Emirates First and Business Lounges and Gold Frequent Flyers will have access the Emirates Business Lounges.

Emirates lounge access is in addition to Qantas lounges, worldwide.

To access the relevant lounge, Chairmans Lounge, Qantas Frequent Flyer Platinum One, Platinum and Gold Members must be departing that day on a Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK) operated flight.

2. As a Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One, Platinum or Gold Frequent Flyer Member, can I bring guests into the Emirates lounge?

Yes. For travel on/after 31 March 2013, Eligible Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One, Platinum and Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer Members are entitled to bring a guest into the applicable Emirates lounges. The guest must be travelling that day on the same onward flight as the Qantas Frequent Flyer Member.

3. As a Qantas Club Member do I have access to all Emirates lounges?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013, Qantas Club Members will be welcomed at the Emirates Business lounge in Dubai when their next onward flight that day is with Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK).

Qantas Club members will have access to Qantas International Business Lounges in Australia and to the American Airlines Admirals Lounge at London Heathrow T3 when their next onward flight is with Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK) to Dubai or Australia. The current lounge benefits for Qantas Club members will remain unchanged when travelling on a Qantas marketed flight.

A valid Qantas Club card in the name of the Member travelling must be presented to the lounge staff to access the lounge.

4. As a Qantas Club Member can I bring guests into the Emirates lounge

Yes. For travel on/after 31 March 2013 Qantas Club Members with access to the Emirates (EK) Dubai Lounge are entitled to bring a guest into that lounge. The guest must be travelling on the same onward flight that day as the Qantas Club Member.

5. As a oneworld Member will I have access to the Emirates Lounge.

Emerald and Sapphire oneworld Members booked and ticketed to travel on a Qantas (QF) operated flight with Qantas (QF) flight number will have access to Emirates Lounges. In Dubai, Emerald oneworld Members will have access to the Emirates First Lounges and Sapphire oneworld Members will have access the Emirates Business Lounges
