Domestic Flight Upgrade Awards
To request a Flight Upgrade Award for domestic travel using your points, you'll need to have an eligible paid and confirmed Qantas domestic ticket, which may be a Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award, on a Qantas operated service with a QF flight number on your ticket. Flight Upgrade Awards are not available on Qantas & Partner Classic Awards.
Your domestic Flight Upgrade Award is subject to capacity controls and availability at time of request. You may make your request between 353 days and 24 hours in advance of your scheduled departure.
Flight Upgrade Awards cancelled within 24 hours of scheduled flight departure, or failure to board a booked flight, will result in the loss of the flight upgrade and any Points used to redeem the flight upgrade.
Flight Upgrades cancelled more than 24 hours before departure may be refunded subject to a fee.
To request a Flight Upgrade Award using your points, log in to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account at qantas.com. Click on View Your Bookings and click on the 'Upgrade' button for your desired booking.
Alternatively you can contact Qantas Telephone Sales.
New domestic upgrades experience coming in 2012
In 2012, we'll be introducing a domestic registration process for Flight Upgrade Awards on Qantas operated flights (with a QF flight number on your ticket), where your upgrade request cannot immediately be confirmed. Confirmation of a successful domestic Flight Upgrade Award from the point of booking, as well as the ability to request 'on departure' Flight Upgrade Awards will remain available. If your Flight Upgrade Award is confirmed after you have registered, where possible we'll notify you with an SMS† so you can maximise the time to prepare for your upgraded Qantas journey.
Domestic On Departure Upgrades
Domestic On Departure Upgrades may be requested by Qantas Club members (this includes all Platinum and Gold Qantas Frequent Flyers) for eligible domestic Qantas operated flights (with a QF flight number on your ticket).
There are two ways to request a domestic On Departure Upgrade: at The Qantas Club or at a domestic check-in Kiosk (where available).
At The Qantas Club
If you are a Qantas Club member, domestic On Departure Upgrades can be arranged for you and any eligible family member~ travelling with you 'on departure' at domestic Australian Qantas Club lounges subject to these conditions:
- You (and any eligible family member) must have a paid eligible Qantas Discount Economy or Economy ticket^.
- You may use your Qantas Frequent Flyer points to upgrade one class on domestic flights within Australia (where a seat is available) from Discount Economy^ (to Business, or from Economy^ to Business.
- Requests can be made at domestic Qantas Club lounges up to a maximum of three hours, but no less than 20 minutes, before your flight departure (allow a minimum of 40 minutes for domestic departures from international terminals).
- Upgrades are only offered on Australian domestic Qantas flights (QF400 and above) as well as domestic legs of Qantas international flights (QF1-399).
- Flight Upgrade Awards are at all times subject to seat and catering availability*.
For more information, ask at The Qantas Club Service Desk.
At Domestic Check-in-Kiosks
Qantas Club members can also choose to request domestic On Departure Upgrades on eligible Qantas flights at domestic Australian check-in-Kiosks where available. The same conditions as for requesting an upgrade at The Qantas Club apply.
Requests for domestic Flight Upgrade Awards at check-in Kiosks are available for bookings only when the eligible member is travelling by themselves and are subject to availability and fare conditions.
International Flight Upgrade Awards
If you hold an eligible confirmed ticket, which may be a Qantas & Jetstar Any Seat Award, for a Qantas operated service with a QF flight number, you may be able to register for an international Flight Award Upgrade. Please note however that Flight Upgrades Awards are not available on Qantas & Partner Classic Awards or airfares booked in E, N, O, P, Q or X class, which includes some Red e-Deal fares.
International Flight Upgrade Awards may be requested any time after you have received your e-Ticket itinerary and receipt between 353 days and 24 hours before scheduled departure of your flight. Requests will not be accepted within 24 hours of scheduled departure of the flight.
Flight Upgrade Awards will not be confirmed on international services at time of booking or when your registration is received. Requests for Flight Upgrade Awards on international services will be considered in accordance with the following timetable:
- Platinum One Frequent Flyers, from up to 7 days prior to scheduled departure
- Platinum Frequent Flyers or higher, from 48 hours prior to scheduled departure
- All Frequent Flyers, within 24 hours of scheduled departure.
Flight Upgrade Awards are at all times subject to capacity controls and availability is limited. Upgrades may not be allocated according to the timetable above even if seats are available for sale in the upgrade cabin due to expected future commercial passenger demand.
At any point in time Flight Upgrade Award requests are prioritised according to your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership level: Platinum first, followed by Gold, Silver and then Bronze. If you are not travelling but use your points to request an upgrade for an eligible family member, the upgrade will be awarded according to the eligible family member's priority - not the status of the Qantas Frequent Flyer whose points are being used. An exception is made when Platinum One members, though not travelling, redeem points for an upgrade on behalf of eligible family members. In this case the eligible family members will enjoy the same high priority as a Platinum One member.
If your international Flight Upgrade Award request is confirmed you may receive SMS notification†. Alternatively you can check online via Your Bookings at qantas.com to see if your request has been successful. You will also be informed when you check-in to your flight at the airport.
You may cancel an unconfirmed request for a Flight Award Upgrade without forfeiting your points at any time prior to departure. Should your upgrade request be confirmed and you choose to cancel your flight more than 24 hours before departure your Flight Upgrade Award may be refunded subject to a fee. If you cancel or fail to board a flight for which you have redeemed points for a Flight Upgrade Award within 24 hours of departure, you will forfeit the points used and a seat may no longer be available in the original class you booked in.
To register for an international Flight Award Upgrade using your points, login to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account at qantas.com. Click on View Your Bookings and click on the "Upgrade" button for your desired booking.
Alternatively you can contact Qantas Telephone Sales.
