Qantas Freight operates ground handling facilities in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Los Angeles.The facilities not only handle Qantas and Jetstar aircraft but contract ground handling services to many of the world's major carriers.
Each terminal offers a variety of services appropriate to the needs of the local market including
- Coolrooms and freezers for perishables
- Warmrooms for tropical fish and other live animals vulnerable to cold
- Strongrooms and safes for secure storage of valuable cargo
- Dry and wet ice and
- Specialist handling equipment for safe and efficient loading and unloading.

The largest air freight facility in Australia, the Sydney Freight Terminal (SFT1) is located in the heart of the Sydney International Terminal. The terminal features includes a state of the art security surveillance system, coolroom and freezers, integrated weighing systems, multiple aircraft parking bays, an import bypass system and a container and distribution facility.
Qantas Freight also operates a second off airport terminal in Sydney known as Sydney Freight Terminal 2 (SFT2). This highly advanced terminal features a shrink wrapping machine, 12 check in stations and variance forklifts to provide a reliable and fast service to our major deconsolidators.
Express Handling Unit
Qantas Freight operates a dedicated express terminal adjacent to the Sydney International Terminal. This facility has been custom-designed to process the high volumes of express products handled by Australia's major international airfreight gateway.
Mail Handling Unit
Qantas Freight's dedicated Mail Handling Unit in Sydney has been custom designed to service the large volumes of airmail travelling into and out of Australia through Sydney. The facility is also home to the US Armed Forces Asia Pacific mail headquarters.
Qantas Freight's Melbourne facility has recently undergone a five year, multimillion dollar redevelopment. Already the largest facility at Melbourne International Airport, the terminal now boasts Australia's only airside temperature controlled staging area to protect perishable products from extreme temperature conditions. The fully automated facility is able to accommodate up to 20 pallet positions at a constant temperature of 13 degrees.
The redevelopment also includes construction of a new administration building, followed by extensions to the main terminal building, installation of automated materials handling equipment, new loading docks, a dedicated mail handling area which have delivered dramatic customer service improvements and tripled the terminal's capacity.
Qantas Freight's Freight Terminal is leading the way in safety and sustainability initiatives. The terminal has recently installed light sensors in its dock areas to dramatically turn lights on and off as required. The terminal also has in place highly successful waste and water reduction programs and is investigating the use of solar power in its operations.Terminal facilities include specialised handling equipment including automatic transfer vehicles (ATV's), a new fleet of computer enabled Hyster forklifts and tugs as well as multiple docks, easy road and airside access and cool storage facilities. The terminal is completely enclosed and undercover providing maximum protection for our customer's freight.
The Perth Freight Terminal is a purpose-built, modern facility which features an elevated transfer vehicle (ETV), a multi- level ULD container and storage system, coolroom and freezer facilities, by-pass lanes, multiple truck bays and break-down and build-up areas as well as electronic links with Australian Customs.
The Qantas Freight Los Angeles Terminal is conveniently positioned near the Los Angeles airport. Terminal features include an elevated transfer vehicle (ETV) handling system, by-pass lanes, multiple build-up and break down stations, a customs automated manifest system, multiple truck docks with hydraulic dock levellers and cool room facilities.
