What is the Commercial Program?
It is designed for applicants who have completed or are about to complete a Commercial Pilot (Aeroplane) Licence. Commercial Cadets will complete an abridged full-time theory and flight training course of approximately 6 months at a participating Flight Training Organisation. This is a self-funded Program with all training costs being the responsibility of the cadet.
What is included in Phase One of the Commercial Program?
Phase One of the Commercial Program is a full-time theory and flight training course at a participating Flight Training Organisation (FTO).
At the completion of Phase One, successful Commercial Cadets will have:
- A Commercial Pilot (Aeroplane) Licence (CPL(A)
- A Command (Multi Engine Aeroplane) Instrument Rating
- Credits for all Air Transport Pilot (Aeroplane) Licence theory subjects
- Instruction designed to enhance the Cadets' aircraft management, multi-crew skills and their knowledge of Qantas operating procedures
- 100 hours as Pilot in Command of a fixed wing aircraft
- Approximately 200 hours total flying time supplemented by additional flight simulation time
- 5 hours of dual aerobatics
What is the cost of Phase One of the Cadet Pilot Training Program for Commercial Cadets?
- Phase One of the Qantas Cadet Pilot Program is a self-funded course for all Commercial Cadets. All costs associated with the course are the responsibility of the cadet. Qantas receives no payment from the Flight Training Organisation (FTO).
- Costs are set by the individual FTOs and vary from organisation to organisation. Final costs for each school will be advised to successful cadet applicants during an information day to be held approximately one month prior to course commencement.
- 2009 Cadets should expect to pay at least A$43,000 for the Commercial Program. Accommodation and meals are in addition to this cost. Please note: It is a requirement that Qantas Cadets must reside at the residencies offered at Flight Training Adelaide. Individual circumstances will be discussed on a case by case basis.
Can Qantas help me organise funding for the Commercial Program?
Commercial Program Cadets who are assessed by Qantas as having successfully graduated from Phase One may have the option of accessing a line of credit from the Qantas Staff Credit Union up to a maximum of A$60,000. This funding can be used to facilitate payment of their Cadet Industry Placement Program (CIPP) qualifications contribution and to repay some or all of any existing loans associated with the cost of their flying training.
The FEE-HELP available under some of the University Programs on offer is not available for Commercial Program Cadets.
What is the payment procedure for Commercial Cadets - is it in instalments or do you pay up-front?
Payment requirements are by arrangement with the Flight Training Organisations, but are usually by instalments.
What are the entry requirements for this Program?
In addition to the Qantas Cadet Pilot Program Minimum Criteria, Commercial Program Cadet applicants must have a Commercial Pilot (Aeroplane) Licence (CPL(A)) by a specified date as set out in the Cadet Pilot Program Selection Schedule. As part of the Cadet selection process, all Commercial Program applicants will be required to undergo a Cadet Flight Test, in addition to other assessments, with a Qantas appointed testing officer. Are there any additional requirements I should be aware of if applying to the Commercial Program?
If offered a position on the Cadet Pilot Training Program it is a requirement that Commercial Program Cadets will have completed 5 hours Pilot in Command (PIC) at night prior to the commencement of training. You may wish to consider this when undertaking your training.
