Human Resources

The Qantas Group is one of Australia's largest employers with approximately 37,000 people, over 90 per cent of whom are based in Australia. The diverse nature of the Qantas Group, and the size and nature of the HR function means that there are many opportunities to develop a wide range of HR and related skills, within different roles and at all levels in the HR function.

The function operates within a business partnering model that ensures HR practitioners are able to work closely with the business in the delivery of corporate and segment strategies. HR strategy is focused on ensuring a flexible and adaptable workforce, developing management and leadership capabilities, improving productivity and labour unit costs and building a safer workplace.

HR operates across Qantas in four areas:

  • Corporate - including Remuneration and Benefits, Industrial Relations, Organisational Effectiveness and Management Development, Global Workforce Initiatives, and the Program Office. Collectively these expert teams are responsible for shaping policy and strategy and enabling the delivery of the HR strategy
  • Business Segments - HR teams who partner with each business segment to help deliver the segment strategy through innovative programs and day-to-day HR
  • Shared Services - a central support unit performing streamlined back-office functions such as answering HR enquiries, managing employee records, supporting recruitment and remuneration processes, managing workers' compensation and staff travel schemes
  • Learning and Development - developing and delivering learning and development programs through our Registered Training Organisation, Qantas College

As an HR practitioner with Qantas, you will be part of a community with access to tailored Business Partnering and Practitioner of Change development programs in addition to driving comprehensive talent, graduate, emerging leader, senior executive and diversity programs.
