Customs

Australian Customs manages the movement of goods and people across the Australian border.

There are restrictions on goods that you can bring in and out of Australia including animal and plant material, food, wildlife, drugs and medicinal products, firearms and more than A$10,000 of currency.

You may need to declare goods upon arrival into, or departure from Australia. For further details, refer to the 'Information for Travellers' section on the Australian Customs website.

Duty Free Allowances

Travellers are allowed to bring goods into Australia duty free.

In general, travellers aged 18 years and over may bring into Australia:

A$900 worth of goods not including tobacco or alcohol (A$450 for travellers under 18 years of age)
2.25L alcoholic beverages (including wine, beer or spirits)
250 cigarettes or 250 grams of cigars or tobacco products other than cigarettes

Members of the same family who are travelling together may combine their individual duty free allowances.

Quarantine

Food, plant material and animal products from overseas - including many common souvenirs - could introduce serious pests and diseases into Australia. To protect Australia's plant, animal and human health, our environment and important agricultural industries, the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) requires your assistance.

You must declare for inspection all food, plant material (including seeds, flowers and wooden items), and animal products on arrival in Australia. Some products may require treatment to make them safe. Items that present a serious pest or disease risk are prohibited.
