Art Encouragement
The Qantas Foundation Encouragement of Australian Art Award recognises emerging Australian contemporary artists and aims to increase awareness of Australian contemporary art by encouraging promising, emerging artists to produce further work. It is a unique art prize in that it recognises an artist's body of work rather than awarding artists for individual pieces. Over the past four years the award has supported the careers of 36 Australian artists, who have exhibited around Australia and the world.
In 2011, we made an exciting change to the Award by introducing a community residency component. This expansion of the Award reflects the Foundation's spirit of giving back to the community.
"The award was an absolutely incredible personal and professional boost for my arts practice - so much so it's difficult to articulate with just words"
