  • Why are you interested in this graduate position?
  • Each year Qantas receives a large number of applications for our Graduate Program. Please describe what sets you apart from other applicants.
  • What are your career goals for the next 3 years?
  • The aviation industry is often characterised by volatility, uncertainty and change. As such, Qantas is faced with numerous issues and challenges. Please rank and describe the top 3 issues you believe are facing Qantas today and outline briefly the reason you think these are important.

Please ensure you meet the minimum criteria for application when you apply.

Stream Questions

Applicants that meet the minimum criteria will be asked to complete further questions specific to the stream that they have applied for. As part of the original application, candidates are asked to select the stream that they are interested in. You may only select one stream. These stream specific questions will be sent out within a few days of applying and will also give you the opportunity to amend/update any of your free text questions.

Online Assessment

All successful candidates will receive email communication from Qantas with a link to SHL (our assessment provider) asking you to complete a competency based online assessment within a designated timeframe. You will receive an email from Qantas with a link to SHL asking you to login to our recruitment system to complete the tests required in a designated timeframe. SHL provides practice tests in order to familiarise yourself with the assessment. If you are successful in subsequent stages your results in these assessments will be verified in a supervised session when you come in for an interview.The online test lasts for about one hour and can only be completed on a PC with MS Windows and internet access. Unfortunately, Apple Mac computers are not supported by SHL

Assessment Centre, Face to Face Interview and Personality Assessment

If successful, you will then be invited to attend a half day assessment centre at the Qantas Head Office in Mascot where you will participate in a variety of individual and team based activities. These are designed to assess a range of competencies necessary for a successful graduate. You will need to provide Qantas representatives on the day with an official copy of your academic transcript, 100 points of ID, details of two current referees and Qantas security forms. Further details will be provided closer to the time.

You will be contacted by a Qantas representative who will schedule a formal behavioural based interview to be conducted at the Qantas Head Office at Mascot. These interviews will be conducted by a panel, including a Senior Manager from the business as well as an HR specialist. You will be asked to complete a personality assessment prior to coming in for the interview.

It is important that you regularly monitor your e-mail throughout these stages to ensure that you are aware of, and respond to, all communication regarding the Qantas Graduate Program.

To make the most of the behavioural-based interview style used by Qantas, we recommend you follow the steps below;

  • When asked a question, frame your answer in three steps: Talk briefly about the situation, detail how you handled the issue and discuss the positive outcome (Situation > Action > Result).
  • Listen carefully. Ask for clarification if necessary. Answer completely.
  • Try to use recent examples.
  • Illustrate your examples with experiences from previous jobs, internships, activities, team involvements and community services. Be prepared to discuss how your skills and experience align with the role, and how you might approach success if selected.

We may also ask you questions of a more technical nature related to Qantas Group main areas of operations. You should prepare for these by being aware of the aviation business and Qantas key program areas.
