Inaugural CEO CookOff raises much needed funds for OzHarvest and Mission Australia
Sydney, 06 February 2012
Thirty of Australia’s most famous chefs will join forces tonight with the nation’s corporate elite in a world first charity event to feed 1,000 Sydneysiders in need.
Presented by Qantas and Australia’s favourite food rescue organisation OzHarvest, the inaugural CEO CookOff will take place at Sydney’s Cathedral Square, in front of St Mary’s Cathedral.
Celebrity chefs including: Peter Gilmore, Guillaume Brahimi, Bill Granger and Maggie Beer will join Rockpool and Qantas ambassador, Neil Perry to design and produce a three course meal service. They’ll be assisted by more than 130 CEOs representing a range of industries.
Each chef will take charge of an outdoor kitchen and work side by side with a team of CEOs to prepare, plate and serve each meal.
Already, more than $800,000 has been raised which will be shared equally between OzHarvest and Mission Australia.
Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said he was proud to represent Qantas in supporting such a worthy cause.
“This is a great opportunity for our corporate leaders to experience a first-hand connection with the needy and less fortunate by preparing their food and sharing a meal with them,” Mr Joyce said.
OzHarvest founder and CEO Ronni Kahn said money raised at the event will allow her organisation to deliver at least 400,000 more meals to those in need.
“Thanks to the generous support of Qantas, Alan Joyce and the other CEOs, we will also be able to roll out a new educational training program to provide recipients of our help with better budgeting, eating and food preparation skills,” she said.
Guests on the night will be entertained by legendary Australian rock star Jimmy Barnes.
