Qantas Enhances Airport Facilities in Canberra

Canberra, 12 November 2010

Qantas customers will benefit from a greatly improved airport experience when the first phase of Canberra Airport's Multi User Integrated Terminal opens on Sunday.

Qantas' Regional General Manager, ACT, Allan Williams, said Qantas had invested over $20 million in delivering new and improved facilities as part of the development, including additional check-in counters, aerobridges and gate lounges, improved baggage facilities and new and larger lounges.

"The Qantas Group operates over 250 return flights into and out of Canberra each week, offering the highest frequency of services between the national capital and Australia's major cities," Mr Williams said.

"We are delighted to offer our customers in the ACT some outstanding new airport facilities, in conjunction with Canberra Airport.

"Investment in airport infrastructure and lounges, enabling customers to move through the terminal with maximum speed and convenience, is a major priority for Qantas and a focal point of our ongoing domestic refresh initiative. From day one, all Qantas passengers using the new terminal at Canberra Airport will experience faster access to their gate and more space in the gate lounge area.

"For Platinum and Gold Frequent Flyers, and Qantas Club members, there are new Business and Qantas Club lounges with stylish design features, improved business facilities and a wide range of food and beverage options.

"Next year, we will introduce our Next Generation Check-in system in Canberra, further streamlining the check-in and bag drop process for our customers."

Mr Williams said Qantas' terminal investment in Canberra complemented its broader commitment to the region.

"In addition to facilitating government, business and leisure travel to Canberra, Qantas supports the Territory's tourism industry through its partnerships with Australian Capital Tourism and Tourism Australia.

"We also give back to Canberra through relationships with local charity and sporting organisations and with the capital's cultural institutions," Mr Williams said.
