On-Time Performance

We know that getting to your destination on time, is one of the most important parts of your experience. It is for us too.

Qantas was the most punctual domestic airline in the country on average for the calendar year 2012. Leading the board in both on-time departures and arrivals, The annual figures mark the fourth calendar year in a row that Qantas has averaged a better on-time domestic performance than its main domestic competitor.*

Qantas uses the computerised Aircraft Communication Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS), to record on-time performance data.

In accordance with industry standards, an 'on-time' departure is one that departs the designated gate no more than 15 minutes beyond the scheduled departure time. Our on-time performance statistics are published by the Australian Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics.

* All figures and claims are based on data compiled by the by the Australian Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics. In each calendar year between 2009 and 2012 inclusive, Qantas had a higher rate of on time departures and arrivals than Virgin Australia (formerly Virgin Blue).
