Pre-Purchased Additional Baggage Allowance
If you wish to travel with more than the free checked baggage allowance (and you are not travelling to Japan), you can pre-purchase an Additional Baggage Allowance before you go, at lower rates than Airport Excess Baggage rates.
Additional Baggage Allowance is available for purchase from Manage Your Booking from 7 days up until 3 hours before the scheduled departure of the next Qantas operated flight on your itinerary (excluding flights to or from Japan), provided you have not checked in for the flight at the airport. You can pay for Additional Baggage Allowance using credit or debit card or by redeeming Qantas Frequent Flyer points.
Additional Baggage Allowance Amounts
- For travel to or from destinations with weight-based baggage allowances (other than the Americas*) - an Additional Baggage Allowance of 5kg, 10kg, 15kg, 25kg or 35kg per flight may be purchased in advance.
Note: a maximum weight of 32kg applies for each piece. - For travel to or from destinations with piece-based baggage allowances (the Americas*) - an Additional Baggage Allowance of a maximum of two pieces at 23kg per piece per flight may be purchased in advance.
Note: a maximum weight of 23kg applies for each piece. Additional pieces over and above 23kgs will be subject to Airport Excess Baggage rates.

At the Airport
Once you have purchased your Additional Baggage Allowance you must print out your e-mail receipt and bring it with you when you check in at the airport as proof of purchase. A print out of the 'Manage Your Booking' page is not acceptable.

Important Information on Additional Baggage Allowance

- The carriage of baggage is subject to space being available. While we will use reasonable endeavours to carry baggage on the same flight as the passenger, there may be times when baggage will need to be transported on a later flight.
Airport Excess Baggage Rates
If you have not pre-purchased sufficient Additional Baggage Allowance, a charge will apply at the airport for any baggage carried in excess of the free checked baggage allowance. Airport excess baggage rates vary depending on the destination. The carriage of baggage in excess of the free baggage allowance is subject to space being available.
Charges apply per kilogram (2.2lb) (except for the Americas* where charges apply for additional pieces). No single item of Checked Baggage may exceed 32kg (70lb).
Charges for excess baggage will be applied at the airport as follows:
