Travel Checklist

To help you prepare for your trip, use this handy checklist to check off important items before you travel.

Australian domestic travel

One week before departure

Travel Insurance QBE Insurance (Australia) Limited offers a range of travel insurance policies to suit different needs, including Australian Comprehensive insurance, and Australian Cancellation and Baggage insurance.
Baggage Check your carry on and checked baggage meets the allowances for domestic travel.

Day of departure

Travel Documents Ensure you have the documents needed for domestic travel, which include your tickets and photo identification.
Flight Status Check your flight departure and check-in times before you head to the airport online or from your mobile.
Check-in Online Check-in from home between 24 hours and 1 hour before your departure, if eligible, plus request your seat.

International travel

At least three months before departure

Passports Make sure your passport is arranged well in advance of your departure date, valid for at least 6 months from departure and valid for the duration of your trip.

It's also a good idea to leave a copy of your passport and travel documents with someone at home. The Australian Government encourages all Australians travelling overseas to register with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade before travel, so you can be contacted in an emergency.

One week before departure

Travel Insurance The Australian Government's travel advisory and consular assistance service, smartraveller.gov.au, advises all Australian travellers to take out travel insurance for overseas travel. Requirements for travel to the USA Including Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA), Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) and Secure Flight Information.
Foreign currency Buy foreign currency with Qantas Travel Money plus Qantas Frequent Flyers earn points.
Medications If you are taking medications, make sure that you have enough for your trip, and carry all medications in your carry on baggage. Read more tips on travelling with medications.
Baggage Make sure your carry on and checked baggage meets the requirements including Dangerous Goods.
Tickets You should carry your e-ticket receipt at all times for your international flight and photographic identification must be produced at check-in.
Customs and Quarantine For restrictions on goods that you can bring in and out of Australia.

Day of departure
