There are plenty of ways to keep in touch while you are flying with Qantas.
You can now use your personal electronic devices such as smart phones, tablets and music players in flight mode, for the duration of each flight, providing uninterrupted access to work and entertainment.
On all A380, B747-400 and A330-300 aircraft you can send and receive text messages, make inflight telephone calls and perform seat to seat calls all from the comfort of your seat.
Mobile phones without flight mode can now be used before departure if parked at an aerobridge and after landing if proceeding to an aerobridge.
Use your personal electronic device in flight mode from gate to gate
You have the freedom and flexibility to use your personal electronic devices, such as smart phones, tablets and music players, in flight mode from the moment you board the plane until you disembark.
Flight mode enables you to operate the basic functions of your mobile phone or PDA while the transmitting function of your phone is switched off. You cannot make phone calls or send SMS whilst in flight mode. To find out whether your device has flight mode capability contact your handset manufacturer or service provider.
Radio transmission using personal communication devices (including walkie-talkies, two-way pagers, or global positioning systems) is prohibited at all stages of flight, as it may interfere with the aircraft's communication and navigation systems.
Note the following information:
- You can use your device when boarding via aerobridge but not transiting across the tarmac;
- Once aircraft doors are closed for departure, you'll need to switch your device to 'flight mode'.
- Secure handheld devices by holding them or placing them in a seat pocket during taxi, take-off and landing. Items heavier than 1kg such as laptops will still need to be stowed.
- You still can't use mobile and smart phones to make calls or send texts while in the air.

If the limit is exceeded by a user, which is possible on new version PCs the power to the user will be interrupted and can only be reset on the ground.
