Canturi's Signature Cubism Collection Welcomes Limited-edition Watches

It’s only natural that the first watches crafted by this prominent Australian house would be “beautiful jewellery that tells time”.
The bold spirit of Cubism has provided a constant source of inspiration to Sydney jeweller Stefano Canturi. Over a 38-year career, some of his most renowned collections have used geometric designs to translate key themes of the early 20th-century art movement into pieces of fine jewellery. Now, Canturi is bringing these ideas to the watch world.
The result walks the line between watchmaking and jewellery but there’s no mistaking Canturi’s background. The dial is composed of 140 brilliant-cut diamonds, their icy glow providing a stark contrast to the jet-black hands. Measuring 23 millimetres, the square case is made from 18-carat yellow-gold, although it’s available in rose- or white-gold, too. Ultimately though, it’s the bezel that immediately distinguishes this as Canturi’s handiwork. Sixteen baguette and carré-cut Australian black sapphires totalling about 5.5 carats dramatically frame the face.

Look beyond the jewels, if you can, and this is a highly functional timepiece. The dial is topped with scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, while inside it’s powered by a dependable quartz movement. But extra little touches of luxury are everywhere. The strap, for example, is made of hand-stitched Saffiano Italian leather and the buckle is generously set with an additional black sapphire. For good measure, another one nestles in the crown. The only real drawback is that just 15 of the watches will be produced each year so interested parties should probably start forming an orderly queue.
