Alt Attribute
All images must have an alt tag to enable accessibility for users with screen-readers. The alt tag is a description of the image that is displayed when the image is loading and when on mouse over. This also applies to form field names and dynamically created graphics such as tabs and buttons.
The alt tag
- Should describe the function of a button or provide a description of the image it refers to.
- For menu graphics, buttons and icons should replicate the text as it appears on the related graphic. For example, the Your Booking tab image should have an alt tag of ‘Your Booking’.
- Dynamically created images such as buttons should also include follow the alt tag standards but they use the “Title Tag” code.
- Is to be in lower case except for the first letter of the first word, and where brand names and proper nouns are used.
- Must be included on Top, Next, Back and Previous images.
Exclusions
- Bullet graphics
- Spacer graphics
